1. During
this exercise I tried to do some deep breathing which actually gave me the
ability to focus more on relaxing. It was really relaxing. I like how we had to
imagine someone of wisdom which then became our inner guide to help heal and
also reject any unnecessary chatter or stress. I always feel so much more
relaxed and calm after doing these exercises especially now that I know what is
starting to work for me like using ear phones. I enjoyed my relaxation time and
this exercise.
2. This
saying, to me, means unless you have experienced it you cannot teach it. It
like the saying you don’t know unless you have walked in the other persons
shoes. Schlitz, Amorok, & Micozzi (2005) states that “providers of health
care must work on their own spiritual evolution to actually experience what the
model represents” (p.476). I think we do have an obligation to our
patients/clients to be developing our own health and wellness. By us doing this
we will have an open mind and heart which will increase the relationship with
our clients. I think increasing psychological and spiritual growth takes time
but I always like to start my day off thinking positively and being grateful
for everyday I have with my family. Although these are little steps they have
improved my life for the better and I am a much happier person.

Hi Monica, I think that was a great idea to do some breathing exercise before you did the practice we had to do. It is important to get yourself in a certain mind set that leaves you open to the experience that is set before us. I too liked the saying about how can we truly lead another where one has not gone. This saying is so true, but there are many who attempt this on a regular basis; possibly because they think they know it all. How can we teach wellness in body, mind and soul if we do not practice these steps in our own lives. I too believe it is important to be positive on a regular basis, and be thankful for all that we have; we leads us to true happiness. Good Post! Have a great Day! ~Kat~
ReplyDeleteHi Monica,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea how we each have to develop our own healthy lifestyles to have and open mind and heart with clients. One of our natural defense mechanisms is judging on first appearances or impressions. By training ourselves to leave that defense mechanism down, we will be better served as professionals. Great point!

Monica,
ReplyDeleteWe do have an obligation to our patients to develop our mind, body and spirit. I find the better I take care of myself, the better I can take care of my family. I also feel a sense of pride being able to inspire my children to do the same. If we can teach them the importance of integral health they are already ahead of us.
Thanks,
Brandy
Deep breathing is so relaxing, but I have to take it slow as I smoke can it can cause me to cough. When I do the breathing exercise, 'm breathing in the good and letting out the bad.My lungs feel stronger after I do this exercise. I have to stop smoking.

Monica,
ReplyDeleteI focused on the specific part of the exercise that is about ridding the mind of unecessary clutter. Not many people take the time to stop and clear their heads which is not good in already stressful situations. I think that this exercise and all of the others are something that we should all try to make time for on a weekly basis.
